How to choose the right weight for your plush

This is the question almost every customer asks, and the honest answer is that the number matters less than where the weight sits.

Start with total weight: Most projects land in these bands:

Typical weight and size by use case
Use case Typical weight Typical size
Children’s comfort and sensory 0.5–1.2 kg 25–35 cm
Teen and adult anxiety relief 1.2–2 kg 30–45 cm
Adult sleep and lap use 2–3 kg 40–60 cm
Desk and novelty 0.3–0.8 kg 15–25 cm

Go too light and the product feels like a normal plush with something odd inside. Go too heavy for the size and it stops being huggable — it becomes something you put down.

Then decide the distribution — this matters moreThree distributions produce three completely different products from the same pattern and the same total weight:

Even distribution

Weight spread through body, limbs and head. This is what people mean when they describe weighted plush as calming — the toy drapes over you and applies pressure across a broad area. Best for anxiety relief, sleep and sensory products.

Base-weighted

Weight concentrated low in the body. The toy sits upright on a shelf and holds its pose. Looks better in retail display and in photography, but the calming effect when held is much weaker.

Limb-weighted

Weight in the arms and lower body, light head. Designed to be draped over shoulders or across a lap. Good for a specific product concept, not a general-purpose choice.

Most customers ask for a total weight and assume the distribution follows. It does not. We ask which of these three you are aiming for before we cut the first pattern, because changing it later means a new inner pouch pattern and another sample round.
